Elle is a fan and apparently so is your colon.
When it comes to detox, naturally there are many ways to do it. And spring and autumn make the most opportune time. Diets, juices, caps, teas and even foot pads are all fair game on the cleanse scene.
Coffee enemas are also an option for those who want to detox deeply while lying horizontal. It can also be helpful for constipation and for those interested in cleansing their colon or increasing their hydration and electrolyte balance. Women the world over also report they have unparalleled energy after an enema although science appears less convinced about this. Irrespective, some users report their buzz lasts anywhere between several hours to some days!
Elle’s enemas
Our founder Elle Macpherson has been a firm fan of the enema for years, with her friend
Angi Fletcher being Elle’s primary enema educator. (Head to Angi’s highlights – entitled ‘Cofee Enemas’ --for more of her guidance.)
“When coffee is used as an enema, it is absorbed through the descending colon and into the hemorrhoidal vein, where it is transported to the portal vein, and directly to the liver,” Angi says.
Some say coffee enemas are particularly good atdetoxifying the gallbladder and liver. Traditionally used to remove parasites, they encourage bowel movements, whichhelps flush out bacteria, heavy metals, fungus and yeast, relieve constipation and improves the function of digestive tract, liver, and colon.
Elle’s friendDr Cole says, “They are a natural detoxification tool that’s been used since the late 1800s to support digestive health, speed up detoxification, support recovery from poisonings, and help speed up healing after surgery.”
Elle likes to do these once a week and prefers to use aglass kit to avoid absorbing the BPAs from any plastics.
“I avoid all coffee, except coffee enemas,” Elle recently toldGet the Gloss. “These stimulate the liver and gall bladder, providing a second-to-none detox.”
Making enemas easy:
Opt for organic beans
Use organic, non-flavoured, and non-decaffeinated coffee beans. Dark roast is typically recommended. Two to four tablespoons of coffee to four cups of water is perfect. Let simmer for at least 20 minutes.
Use filtered water
Use clean, filtered, or distilled water only.
Go glass
Purchase a high-quality glass enema kit that comes complete with tubing and a rectal nozzle.
Get comfy!
The more comfortable and relaxed you are the easier it will be so pop on a robe, grab a towel, set the scene and grab your coffee!
